Deep Cycle Batteries
A deep-cycle battery is built to be discharged deeply and recharged many times, unlike a starter battery, which delivers a short high-current burst to crank an engine. Waveinverter supplies AGM and lead-carbon deep-cycle batteries for off-grid homes, campervans, marine and trade use, and the right chemistry depends on how you use it. AGM is sealed, maintenance-free and well suited to systems that regularly return to a full charge, but usable capacity is limited by depth of discharge – as a rule you draw no more than about 50 percent of an AGM battery to protect its cycle life. Lead-carbon handles partial-state-of-charge cycling far better and suits solar systems that do not fully recharge every day. Lithium offers the most usable capacity and the greatest weight saving, but its placement in habitable spaces is restricted under AS/NZS 3001.2:2022.
How big a battery bank do I need? Size it from your daily energy use in amp-hours, your chosen depth of discharge, and the days of autonomy you want.
